Root out black money now, says Wipro chairman Azim Premji

Wipro chairman Azim Premji believes the time has come for India to root out black money.

"One has reached a point in public governance... whereby one has to take stock and say enough is enough," he told NDTV. "We have to reform ourselves, change ourselves."

Premji is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, and spoke to the NDTV reporter covering the event. He suggested growth was meaningless in the absence of a sense of patriotism.

On black money, he said, "The law should go after it. Every country with a sense of principles should go after it... That's basic to public morality."

Premji and 13 other prominent signatories had written an open letter to the prime minister, complaining about the country's "governance deficit".

He said the government hadn't responded to the letter, and described its tone as "constructive."
